Willy joined this sport at the age of only 10. He was infected by his father as happens so often.

In the past they were partners and birds were basketed then for all kinds of races. All sorts of championships were won in the club ‘de Peelkruisers at Someren’ in those day. From 1960 to 1980 there were about 60 fanciers in this club. It went down to about 35. In 1974 Willy moved to the little town of  Lierop nearby Someren. This town is located nearby  A67 20 kilometres East of  Eindhoven and 5 kilometres South of Helmond.

In the spring of 1974 a new start was made. He bred a round of youngsters to be put on his loft in Lierop and he took 8 old birds with him.
In the town of Someren his father raced from now on together with a brother of Willy.
Later on another brother was to complete the partnership with his father. In 1979 his father passed away and the brothers would practise the sport on their own. 

In 1976 Willy became Over All  Champion in Someren for the first time. From then on his favorite game was the long distance races, including the 2-day Nationals.

Since 1995 the one day races are no more than a preparation to the National and so-called  ‘Z.L.U – races’ of which Barcelona is the most important.
40 widowhood cocks are kept and apart from that 20 couples are raced natural. There are 12 breeding couples in the stockloft and he breeds 80 youngsters yearly. They are all babies off of the first round so that they will be of the same age.
In winter several vouchers are donated for charity. The following babies which are bred get another destination including the children and grandchildren of the bird called "Boudewijn"  which won 1st National Barcelona in 1997

In 2001 all the birds were mated in the beginning of January unlike other years when only the breeders were mated in winter. The old racers will be separated after they had been on eggs for 10 days. In March, when they are put together again they know where their boxes are if they had had a nest there in winter.
