History
The start of his pigeon career goes back to 1962 when he still was at school. Then he got some birds from his teacher Mr Ledderhof from The Hague. These short- and middle distance birds did very well for him. As so often happens with young people in pigeonsport later on the birds had to make place for another hobby. For Aad this was Judo. The fact that he became both provincial and National champion in this sport shows he is a born winner. Later on, after he had quit Judo he started pigeons again. He formed a Combination with his nephew Henk van Bergen Henegouwenand together they formed a succesful partnership that had great results and many championships were won. Pigeons of long distance Ace Jeu Vervuurt were responsible for this. Later on Henk moved to another place and this meant the end of the Combination. The old ‘Vervuurtbirds’ were for Henk, Aad got youngsters off of them. These babies were the first birds in the new lofts in his new location. Then ten eggs were purchased from the well known Leo van Rijn from Schipluiden. The latter raced the Jan Ernestpigeons for example descendants of ‘Kapstokje’ a well-known Ernestbird. In the first few years the results were just average but they got better year by year till they were real super. ‘St Vincentje’ and the ‘Pau-duiven’ are two hens many people still talk about. In their area they often won a special prize for the ‘first pick’ bird.

In most of the pedigrees you find birds of Jeu Vervuurt, Jan Ernest and blood of the 1st nat. Barcelona ("Sterke Barcelona") of Piet v.d. Slik. Also you find birds of Thomas Peeters uit As (Belgium) line "Diego Armando". There are also descendants of ‘De Pau Duivin’ from Kuypers Bros from Neer and birds that descend from ‘Oud Doffertje 1’ from Albert Simons. As the family was pretty much inbred in the last few years new blood was ‘imported’. From the famous Jac v d Wegen from Nieuw Vossemeer ten pigeons were purcheased, all of them off of his best bloddlines. Aad likes these v d Wegenbirds a lot. ‘They have everything a long distance bird should have.’  Aad van Bergen Henegouwen will focus on the marathonraces from St Vincent and Barcelona. It is impossible for him to enter birds in all the races. He is too busy for that and moreover he does not want to skip a holiday for his birds. As mentioned before he was already tremendously succesful in the National race from St Vincent. From St Vincent he already won 3rd, 6th, 10th, 18th and 37th National! From Barcelona he won 32nd International hens and from Pau 34th National.

In  2002 eight pigeons were purcheased from Jan Theelen uit Buggenum. He is tremendously succesful in the National races
